You get a baggage insurance plan when you use this card to pay for travel. If your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged while in transit, you can get up to $500 of coverage for checked baggage and up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage.
Car rental loss and damage insurance is a big saver because you can decline the insurance offered by auto rental companies. This secondary insurance coverage will pay benefits above what is already covered by your auto insurance, liability insurance or any other insurance policy you may hold. Some vehicles are not covered, including full-sized sport utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, trucks, cars with a new retail price of USD $50,000 or more (as suggested by the manufacturer), and exotic cars. If you rent a vehicle that isn't covered then it may be advisable to take the insurance coverage offered by the auto rental merchant.
Enjoy an extended warranty on purchases that you charge to this card. You can get up to 1 extra year added to the original manufacturer's warranty for stuff with a warranty of 5 years or less. This coverage protects the things you buy with a benefit of up to a maximum of $10,000 per occurrence (no more than $50,000 per Card Member account per calendar year for all occurrences). Not everything you buy will enjoy this coverage. For example, auto parts, software, motorized devices and anything that gets damages as the result of a natural disaster will not be covered. But in most cases you will get this extra warranty, and all you have to do is pay with your card which isn't asking a lot.
You can return stuff you don't want. When you use this card to pay for something in full, you benefit from Return Protection. If you wan to return it but the merchant doesn't want to take it back, American Express may refund the full purchase price (shipping and handling not included) with up to $300 per item. You can benefit from up to a maximum of $1,000 per calendar year.
Enjoy complimentary travel accident insurance when you pay for the full cost of travel using this card. That can help you save because you won't need to buy the travel accident insurance that airlines or travel agencies try to push on you, since you already get this coverage. Just bear in mind that travel accident insurance only pays out a benefit if you are killed or permanently and critically disabled (think loss of multiple limbs, eyesight, etc.). If you want more comprehensive coverage then pay with a card that gives you additional travel insurance benefits or get third party coverage.
You get entertainment perks through the Entertainment Access® benefit offered by Amex. Enjoy exclusive access to ticket presales and Card Member-only events in a city near you. You may also get special rates on tickets to sporting events, concerts and more.
No foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees). This feature is convenient if you are the globetrotter type and like to spend your vacations traveling the world or lounging on some foreign beach, since you can use it while traveling internationally and you don't have to worry about additional fees on purchases made abroad.
Our Least Favorite Things About Hilton Honors American Express Card
No introductory low APR offer. This card does not give you a low introductory APR for either purchases or balance transfers. In other words, this is not the right card account to transfer your old credit card debt into. It also isn't a good card to use if you don't pay your credit card bill in full every month, as it has a 15.74% - 24.74% variable APR for purchases and balance transfers.
