Alaska Airlines just completed its takeover of Virgin America last year, and fans of both airlines should be excited for what's in store as far as Alaska Airlines' expansion effort goes, especially on the West Coast. Alaska Airlines recently announced the addition of three new daily nonstop routes, two from Portland and one from Los Angeles.
The Portland, Oregon to Detroit route will start on Wednesday, August 30. The airline will use an Alaska B737 aircraft. This will be a red-eye flight, leaving at 10:30pm and arriving at 5:30am the next day. Return flights leave Detroit at 7:00am and arrive at 8:45am.
The Los Angeles to Philadelphia route will begin on Friday, September 1. The airline will use the Virgin America A320 family aircraft. The flight will also be a red-eye, leaving Los Angeles at 8:45pm and arriving in Philadelphia at 5:00am the next day. Going from Philadelphia, the flight will leave at 6:30am and arrive at 9:26am.
On Monday, November 6, Alaska Airlines will start offering, flights between Portland, Oregon and New York's JFK on its Alaska B737 aircraft. The red-eye flight will leave Portland, Oregon at 11:05pm and arrive the next day at 7:30am. Return flights will leave JFK at 9:30am and arrive at 12:55pm.
With the completed Alaska Airlines-Virgin America merger, flyers should have even more options from West Coast cities to destinations across the country, as well as destinations all over the world. With red-eye flights to the East Coast, flyers from Portland and Los Angeles will be able to connect to early morning flights leaving for Europe and beyond.
