Marriott is considering making a number of changes that could shake up the hospitality industry. Among the ideas recently displayed at a lab hosted by the hotel is an automatic drink dispenser where guests can control using their smartphone. The benefit of such a dispenser is the ability of the hotel to grant awards to guests, including free drinks.
This can be done by sending an email containing a link. After following the link, guests arrive at a website that features an icon that can be pressed. Within just a minute, guests can have a glass of wine or beer poured from the dispenser.
To compete with the likes of Airbnb, the hotel chain is contemplating a number of new ideas, including a communal living space comprising four private bedrooms. The space would also include a shared kitchen space. According to Marriott, this type of arrangement could be ideal for business groups of colleagues traveling together or even groups of friends and family who prefer the opportunity to share living space and a kitchen area.
With this type of arrangement, groups traveling together could enjoy the best of both worlds by having their own private space but also being able to take advantage of a shared living and meal prep area. For the moment, the new arrangement is still a concept, as the hotel is still trying to determine whether this is something that travelers would want and whether it would even be popular.
