In an effort to remain competitive, Icelandic carrier WOW Air has announced that it will soon offer what it calls as Big Seats. The new seats will provide a footrest and additional legroom. Compared to the typical 30 to 31 inches of pitch between seats usually offered on WOW Air standard economy seats, the new Big Seats will provide a seat pitch of 37 inches.
The new seats should begin appearing in June aboard WOW Air's A330's, with tickets going on sale in March. Although this will certainly be an improvement for the airline, the new seats are not quite as spacious as some seats already available on other airlines, including the premium seat options offered by Norwegian Air.
WOW Air is also launching what it is calling the WOW Biz, which is a new Business Class bundle package that gives passengers the option to travel with a 44-pound checked luggage item and a 26-pound carry-on item. Along with being guaranteed the largest seats on the flight, WOW Biz passengers can also benefit from in-flight meals, priority boarding, and cancellation protection.
Additionally, the airline also offers WOW Plus, an airfare option that offers the same luggage allowances as what WOW Biz passengers get to enjoy. Travelers on WOW Plus tickets will not be able to take advantage of the largest seats aboard, however. Cancellation protection will be provided, though.
Travelers will also notice changes to WOW Air's carry-on policy for bare-bones fares. While passengers can bring one personal item onboard, that item must be able to fit beneath the seat or the passenger will face additional charges.
